Three amazing white lei. |
When people first come to visit in Hawaii, they are given
lei. They are also given lei for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, graduations, births, or just
because. On May first, there is a lei making contest on each island. I go every year. It is amazing to see the craftsmanship
of the lei makers, as they make necklaces that are floral arrangements! So choose a pretty for yourself, and E komo Mai-Welcome
and enjoy my photos.
|
There are differerent categories, and each contestant provides the list of flowers used. |
|
Each year the Mayor chooses a favorite. This 2008 was Mayor Baptiste's last. Sadly he died in July. |

Our little island has an amazing topography. We even have a grand canyon in Waimea. |
Photos of Kauai Some Kauai photos are scattered throughout the website. Here are some
all in one place.
|
Another time, another angle of the canyon. It's always different! |
|
It's always in how you perceive things..... |
|
Often there are waterfalls; rarely they are trickles. It depends on the rain. |
|
On the other side of the Canyon is the Kalalau Valley. This is a morning shot. |
|
One sunset Kalalau was clouded over. I asked the spirits to show me what they would. |
|
A few minutes later the clouds lifted. We say here, "Lucky we live Kaua'i." |

I got to touch glaciers in the Stikine River in Wrangell, Alaska |
Above are some shots from Joshua's and my Alaska vacation
in August 2008. Below are some pictures of places of interest around Kaua'i.
|
Spouting Horn in Lawai. One hears a roar through the lava tube, and it's called a dragon! |
|
Mt. Waialeale is the highest elevation in Kaua'i, but it is usually behind clouds. |
|
This is as far north as you can go, the Na Pali coast. |

The Hanalei Taro patches produce the most taro on all the islands. |

Secret Falls. They say that wishes made under the falls come true. |
I live on the East side of Kaua'i. The Wailua River
divides into a north fork and a south fork. The South Fork takes you to Secret Falls. The North Fork leads to the Wailua Falls,
made famous in the opening scene of Fantasy Island, but it's not navigable much farther than the Fern Grotto. We love
to kayak on the Wailua River. It is the most navigable river in all of Kaua'i. I love that I can grow so many things.
